Washing advice and instructions: How to wash Lyocell bed linen correctly

Lyocell is a durable material that can withstand a lot. However, proper care is important to ensure the material retains its positive properties for a long time. These washing instructions will keep you on the safe side.

1. Always air out Lyocell bed linen properly

Before putting your bedding in the washing machine, you should air it out. It's best to air it out once a day to remove any moisture. This also helps the cellulose fibers return to their original shape.

Important: Avoid direct sunlight as this will damage the fibers!

2. Choose the right washing machine settings

1. The right temperature

Generally, products such as clothing or bedding made of Lyocell/Tencel can be machine washed without any problems at temperatures up to 60 degrees Celsius. However, this depends heavily on the product.

Our Lyocell bed linen, for example, should only be washed at a maximum of 40°C ( washing instructions for Lyocell bed linen for comparison). Because it has a very fine surface and high thread density.

Therefore, be sure to pay attention to what is written on the washing label of your product.

2. Sort laundry correctly

Always wash your bed linen separately from other textiles, including mixed fabrics, to avoid pilling on the surface.

3. Choose the right program

For Tencel, use a full cycle and deactivate all water-saving programs. Your bedding needs plenty of water to be thoroughly cleaned.

4. Use the right detergent

It is best to use a wool detergent for laundry and avoid fabric softener.

To ensure the detergent cleans your lyocell bedding properly, add it to the detergent drawer rather than directly into the drum. This ensures even distribution of the detergent.

5. The right spin cycle

Ideally, you should set the spin cycle to 600 rpm to avoid damaging the fabric when washing delicates. For blended fabrics or low thread counts, you can also wash at 800 rpm.

3. Drying the bed linen

The most gentle way to dry your lyocell bedding is to lay it flat on several clotheslines or drying racks. Avoid direct sunlight to prevent it from drying out.

Depending on whether it is a blended fabric, you can also put Tencel products in the dryer at a low temperature.

Should you iron Lyocell products?

It is possible to iron Lyocell or Tencel. Again, be sure to use low heat. To protect the material from drying out, it's best to use a steam iron.

Alternatively, you can apply a damp cloth to the fabric. Lyocell usually dries crease-free, so there's no need to iron the fabric afterward.

Lyocell - the most important information about the natural fiber

Lyocell is a semi-synthetic plant fiber derived from wood. Eucalyptus is particularly popular for production because the tree is sustainable and pesticide-free.

No harmful byproducts are produced during the fabric's production, and all solvents are non-toxic and reusable. This is why Lyocell is so popular today for home textiles, clothing, bandages, and industrial applications.

Bed linen made of Lyocell or Tencel is breathable and hypoallergenic. Because the material has excellent cooling properties, you sweat less, which prevents bacteria from settling in. This also makes it impossible for dust mites to thrive in Lyocell bed linen.
